Hi, I’m Katie, one of Jane Alexandra Events Senior Coordinators!
I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley later stayed in Calabasas. I grew up in an artistic family, and I was either baking, in art class, dance or gymnastics. I then focused on cheerleading. Through the many years of cheer, I was on an all-star competitive team that's where she met Jane, almost 10 years ago. After high school, I knew I wasn't a fit for traditional college, so she went to culinary school to fulfill her love of baking and art. The two worlds combined into creating beautiful desserts and cakes. I worked in many bakeries and restaurants throughout Los Angeles before realizing that I wanted to start my own business. Now I’m a food stylist for TV shows and runs my own food blog that helps home cooks make quick meals, easy desserts, and stunning cakes. I love what I do because it gives me more flexibility to help others and work weddings!
Jane and I reconnected after Jane started her own wedding planning business. Jane reached out to me on social media to see If I would be interested in making cakes for some styled shoots she was designing. As we started to do more styled shoots together, we would start talking about how great it is to work weddings and how Jane lives them. After that talk Jane said, “you’re super organized, do you want to work a wedding with me?” I said yes immediately!
Later I was thinking how much it makes sense and is a natural fit to go into wedding coordinating since I need to be organized and troubleshoot with cake decorating.
After the first wedding, I was immediately hooked. I saw how every wedding is so unique and how little personal touches make that wedding day so special. I learned so much from Jane since that first wedding, and her enthusiasm for wedding planning is so contagious. Now I can’t imagine not working a wedding!
One of my favorite parts of the day is the couple’s first dance. It’s usually after they make their grand entrance and are introduced for the first time. Right before their names are called, you can sense their excitement and how they are just living in the moment. It’s also the time where you can see the couple the most relaxed in their little love bubble. From the song to the dance moves it's always beautiful to watch and something I’ll never grow tired of.
Looking back on the last 2 years working with JAE, I have to say my favorite wedding I’ve ever worked with also one of the hardest. It was in Santa Barbara one week after the Montecito mudslides that shut down the freeway for three weeks. The week before the wedding was stressful for everyone, but that’s where I knew I must step up and be this couple’s support system. Helping wherever I could, calling, reworking plans, finding new accommodations all so the bride and groom wouldn’t feel an ounce of stress on the day of. With all the vendors working so well together, the big day came, and it was simply perfection. You could just see that the couple was so naturally in love and that the week before just melted away.
When I’m not working at weddings, you can usually find me in the kitchen or trying out new restaurants, wine tasting or at Disneyland with friends! I try my best to live by two things, “create every day” and “throw kindness around like its confetti!”
Now that you know a little bit more about me, I can’t wait to get to know you!
